Across the vast expanse of the cosmos, the name AKILA was born of a celestial eagle once named Aquila (Aquilae) by the Latins and Aql (from al-‘Uqab) by the Arabs — a constellation of radiant stars shaped like an ascending arrow, as guide for the wanderer looking for their path. A luminous beam which, across time and myth, has served as a marker for the Bedouin and a beacon for the eternal human soul, awestruck before the mystery of Creation. From Mesopotamia, Greece, Arabia to China — no civilisation has lifted its eyes to the heavens without encountering the triumphant Eagle among the other creatures of the divine bestiary.

There are absences that unmoor the course of history, just as there are presences that work to enchant it. By building new systems of representation, we elevate you, dear female readers, to the rank of protagonists in your own narratives — through the eminent holding of woman’s sacred spirit, its receptive and regenerative power, through the sowing of vitality in the work of art and in the womb of the world. We establish an alliance to shape a new reality that will acknowledge our contributions to cultural matters within the fabric of history, at the scale of future occurrences. A reality attuned to the voices emanating from all things — echoes of the living — attentive to the movements of the earth, to the contours of creative forces, and regenerative of our sanctifying role between sky and humanity.

AKILA is a multidisciplinary showcase, envisioned as a shared receptacle for the experiential echoes between women’s knowledge, cultural contributions, and their roles in arts.

Through notions such as tradition, transmission, and creation, our platform deploys a singular network of reflective tools designed to safeguard, transmit, and interrogate the living heritage of women in the arts and the construction of their narratives within emerging cultural horizons.
